And yet, none, none of you guessed correctly what my new car is.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Allow me to add to Oppo’s automotive diversity: say hello to my 2019 Camaro!
2.0T, base 1LT trim package. 6-speed manual, as decreed in the Constitution.
The car has virtually no optional extras, except this thing called a “1LE Track Performance Package.” More on that later.
I’m about 350 miles into the 1500-mile break-in period so far. A “first impressions” review will be up here shortly, followed by gratuitous autocross content once the break-in mileage is out of the way.
And before you ask, let me say it: the visibility is just fine.
Let me know what all y’all wanna know about the car and I’ll add it in the review soon!

Sweet! When can we expect a way2blue paint/wrap????
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:35 |

Did you special order it or was there a dealer out there with some serious ch utzpah who decided they wanted to make a statement with their inventory?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:36 |

Nice

Just can’t get away from 4 cylinder cars eh?

The longer we’re here, diverse it gets.

It’s a Camero! Gib prize now!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:42 |

I have an appointment to test one tomorrow and maybe get a V6. Congratulations! It looks sinister.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:42 |

Wow congrats!
So what made you go Camero?
Also, in honor of Jayhawk Jake you have to get a custom license plate that says “ MUSTENG”
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:42 |

Didn’t know they offered the 1LE on the 2.0. Congrats! Will it stay black?

Nice!!!
Much better than the Eclipse Cross ;)

Mack truck, Camero, close enough ;)
Congrats and enjoy!

Nice would of never guessed.

also i only just noticed the timestamps...lol

So the cheapest best handling one? Nice!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:54 |
|
I didn’t guess, so I kinda win?
Very nice! How do you feel about the grille, and does having it in black ameliorate the effect? FWIW, I’m not down on it like most of the commentariat seems to be. I especially like how they did the tail.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:56 |

Been driving a V6 camaro for almost 2 weeks now as my M3 is in the shop. I am not a fan. It is quick when it wants too be, but the body roll kinda gets too me. The steering is very neutral and has almost no feel to it. I find myself bored driving it.
...but it is a convertible so I rock that on the bridge on the way home.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:57 |
|
Congrats! Did you have to order it to get the ultimate driver’s spec?
Also “Oppo is a Very Diverse Car Community...”
It sure is, I wish there was a place for each user to have the cars they own/have owned. I often think “who’s the guy with xyz car?”
![]() 08/15/2019 at 13:58 |
|
Mind you, I’d be looking at a V6 coupe 8A. It’s probably not as fun as your M3, but it blows my Passat out of the water.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:00 |
|
The 2.0 w/ 1LE is a pretty new combo, either 2018 or 2019.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:01 |
|
Dealer had 5 2.0T 1LE Camaros on the lot 2 months ago when I test-drove this one. 2 months later, they STILL had 5 on the lot. The discount when I walked back in was stellar.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:01 |
|
Oh I am sure it’ll be a big step from the Passat. I’ve learned how to hypermill in this as at certain speeds it goes to V4 mode and saves gas.
I’d get a WRX STI before I’d get the Camaro, but that is my hot take.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:02 |
|
Lemme know what you think of the 6! It’s a little heavier but sounds really good with the active exhaust
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:02 |
|
Bitchin’! Welcome to the Camaro fraternity! Of course mine is on jackstands waiting for parts but you won’t have to worry about that sort of thing.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:03 |
|
Yup, staying quintuple black (paint, wheels, interior, matte hood wrap, taillights) for now. 2.0T 1LE is new for 2019 and also very fun to drive...
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:05 |
|
I love how aggressively coordinated it looks in black. The matte 1LE hood looks amazing too. I honestly don’t mind the looks even in other colors, the 2019 refresh really evolved the styling effectively.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:06 |
|
That’s what I’ll be looking at! Base V6 8A with the active exhaust.
I’ll gladly do a review for you guys.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:06 |
|
It might actually stay black; been really liking the matte hood contrast. Blue would certainly look nice though...
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:07 |

If my left foot worked, I’d be looking at many more cars. Type-R mainly.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:08 |

This 4-cylinder makes just over 2x the hp/tq of my MR2 definitely a new experience for me.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:09 |
|
Same, I’m surprised too
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:11 |
|
That LTG is a mean four cylinder. Hopefully it doesn’t have the bad piston issues that the Cadillac ats 2.0t had, but I don't think it did. I like GM's turbo 4 stuff.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:11 |
|
Wow, I test drove a V6 1LE back when that was the smallest engine they offered with the 1LE package and I still can’t stop thinking about it. Awesome car, congratulations!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:11 |
|
This car sat on the lot for 3 months before I got it. Ultimate drivers’ spec is a slow-selling combo apparently.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:12 |
|
Congratulations!!! That’s awesome!! !
I test drove a 2018 2.0T, 6-speed car back in the fall and I was really impressed with it. It’s a great chassis, and I love that motor.
I also think your car looks great. I lik e the wheels, the rear end (I love the redesigned tail lights), and the spoiler. The redesigned LT front end has really grown on me, too (still can’t stand the SS though). Very nice looking car!
Enjoy it and make sure to post lots of Camaro content. I really want to hear what you think about it day to day, how livable it is, and what you think of the MyLink and all that stuff. I test drove a used 2018 SS the other night, and I think one of those will be in my garage sooner or later.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:15 |

I’ve driven a 2.0T manual, V6 auto, and V8 manual. Honestly the V6 was really underwhelming. I’m sure some of that was the auto, but the 2.0T felt just as quick and a bit more nimble. I’d suggest checking out the 2.0T, it’s a great little motor, and you’ll save yourself some money up front and in the long term on fuel costs. It’s also got a ton of aftermarket support if you want to do mods, you can easily make up the power differential between it and the V6, and even approach V8 power.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:21 |
|
Welcome to the GM family! Unless you already had one before, in which case, welcome back to the GM family!
Tell me about the shifter and the clutch feel. Tell me about the boost behaviour and who tries to race you.
Also I’m glad it wasn’t a C8 because I know my shoes taste horrible
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:22 |

And then "who's that annoying kid with no car" is me. We're so diverse!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:25 |

1LE is now a trim on all versions of the Camero lineup. It’s kind of nuts, but cool at the same time.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:30 |
|
Something for everyone! (until it gets cancelled)
How’s the Z treating you? Just yesterday, I was fondly looking back on our trip to Mexico. Having GM V8 withdrawals...
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:30 |
|
And I would guess beats it in fuel economy too?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:34 |

Nice - great chassis. Have heard really good things about these.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:35 |
|
I very much approve of this message! I had a 1LT with 2.0T (Slushbox though and no 1LE) and I loved it! Comfortable, fun, precise, and I bet it’s even better with the 1LE! Congrats!!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:35 |

Blue accent stripes?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:39 |

Ok, what the heck is going on here? Why are we all buying cars at the same time?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:41 |
|
Nice! Welcome to the Camaro club. I was just thinking about how I wish I had driven my Camaro today. I’ve had it for seven years now and I still love it. I don’t think I’ll ever let it go.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:41 |
|
I’m just glad you got it with the good grille and not the ugly bumper grille badge thing.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:42 |
|
Yeah, there aren’t too many cars I like in black, but this one is one of those.I also really like the blue they do it in.

Opponauts are doing what they can to save the economy.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:43 |

Same with the Alltrack. It was on the lot since February! The woman in the finance office asked if I was into cars, obviously I said yes. She mentioned how most of the sales people don’t like cars spec’d like that for obvious reasons, and that it’s always someone who’s into cars that buys them.
The dealership owner was young. He said that they barely make money on the enthusiast spec cars but that he always keeps at least one of each model in so that the “kids” that buy them come back and buy a Tiguan or Atlas when they are older. Pretty good logic, If my wife decides she wants a VW, I’ll buy it from them.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:43 |
|
Because I’m sick of throwing money at this thing.
And I like the smell of new cars.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:44 |
|
What dealer?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:44 |
|
Lol. Not for long though, tomorrow might get a 2002 Lancer OZ- Rally. Will still be annoying though
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:44 |
|
There is/was, unsure of who made it or if it's still around but there was a Google doc once upon a time.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:45 |
|
That’s basically my justification for buying the Corolla.
Do the Chevys still have new car smell? None of the stuff I test drove had new car smell, I think they are trying to cut down on the chemical usage.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:45 |
|
And the manuals.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:49 |
|
Yeah, but when you do get a car it’s gonna be way cooler than when any of us olds gets a new one. It will be a celebration day on here.
I have and have had a bunch of really neat cars, but nothing compares the freedom/fun of your first car regardless of what it is. Mine was a 96' Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edish... If you asked me to categorize myself in the car community I would say “Bimmercurious but uses turn signals”. However I have owned 3 explores and 2 rangers...The feeling of that first one really sticks with you.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:50 |
|
That’s awesome. I think your spec should hold its value fairly well and from what I have seen, there hasn’t been much change in prices over the past year and since the C8 debut.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:52 |
|
I like CB’s idea, blue stripes would look sweet with the black
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:56 |
|
Yeah I think Z06s will continue to do better than the Z51s, they’re probably closer to the bottom of the curve than we think. I don’t want to give up my manual just yet!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 14:59 |
|
Me and my friends are using what we're learning in our automotive class and flipping cars for a profit. Lancers are very slight out here in Central Florida for some reason, especially the OZ-Rally. This one is $1k with a clean title and a manual, with 180k miles. I feel like I can get it lower than that especially since it's a private seller so we're gonna try our luck, pool our money and then get to work. With the help of our teacher, connections, friends and a classmate who works at a tuning shop I feel like we can get it done for relatively cheap and sell for some decent cash. Shit, the day I get my own personal car is gonna be so monumental that it'll mark the end of the world probably lol
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:00 |
|
Haha that is going to be a VERY different car at autox than your MR2! Not that this is a bad thing though, its nice to change things up. And I actually really like how the newer Camaros handle, its rather fun in canyons at least. Curious how that motor will be, I couldnt buy a Camaro without a V8 and at least the rental spec V6 still sounded nice, for a v6. Turbo 4, since thats all the rage now, is probably faster but I am doubtful it will sound any good.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:12 |
|
Yup, EPA rated for 20/30 city/fwy but I’m getting 22 average in just city driving. Excellent engine so far.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:13 |
|
You got the one I would buy, except mine would be orange. Nice buy, congrats!
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:15 |
|
Your shoes are safe for now :)
I’ll have to finish the break-in miles before I can say for certain, but the clutch/shifting feels quite natural and intuitive.
Full boost/who tries to race me review will have to wait on the break-in miles too. Autocross is in a week and a half so I’ve got lots of driving to do.

GoPro Road Trip!

I am intrigued. What/where is this dealer?
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:30 |

Quality Chevy in SoCal still has 3 2.oT 1LEs left, and 2 ZL1 1LEs. All pretty heavily discounted.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:32 |
|
The 3 2.0T 1LEs left have been on the lot for 3+ months now. If you’re near SoCal, they’re an awesome deal.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:36 |
|
Welcome to the Camaro club! That’s a nice looking 1LE
![]() 08/15/2019 at 15:38 |
|
I just hit the link you gave me, I think they just sold a ZL1, as I only see 1 now! Those are great prices though!
I was out in San Diego 2 weeks ago for work, I coulda picked one up! And m y wife was literally just in San Diego, she’s currently on a plane on her way back to DC. I could have had her get me one! So many missed opportunities!
Seriously though, that’s a great car and a great deal.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:09 |
|
Did you do any better than the $25k listed? That seems like a fair price and a fun car.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:21 |

I don’t even know you anymore. Now acquiring the MR2 has turned into a rescue mission.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:31 |

Congrats! Great looking car.
How’s the interior? Not the view, but the tactile stuff you touch. Magazines seem to complain about Camaro interiors, but I thought the one I sat in at the auto show was just fine.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:35 |

Congrats!
And before you ask, let me say it: the visibility is just fine
Liar ;)
![]() 08/15/2019 at 16:41 |

No, it’s a cavalier Z24!
No wait, it’s an accord coupe!
Wait wait, it’s actually a v6 mustang!
Oooooooooo it's actually the new Hyundai Genesis coupe!

Is it safe to say the turbo-four-cylinder is the official engine of Oppo?

This?

This is with your “break-in” driving style. I’m guessing it won’t ever average that after it hits 1000 miles.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 19:19 |
|
That kind of looks right, but that one is even less up to date than I r emember and the organization seems have gotten wonky.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 19:28 |
|
Did you just assume my Lead Foot??
Hahaha, jk but yes it’ll definitely see lower numbers once it’s broken in.
![]() 08/15/2019 at 19:37 |
|
Very nice! I’ve driven some of these and vehemently disagree with you about visibility :)
![]() 08/15/2019 at 21:15 |
|
Not a Lead Foot, but a need for spirited and fun driving. Sort of have to make that assumption when a person opts for the “Track Performance Package. ” And keeping the revs under 3000 is never fun driving... unless someone is trying to make you race them, and won’t pass you.
